Brotherly Breakdown
Written by Brotherly Burgers
BK Jani delivers outstanding flavor through herbaceous mint chutney, creamy raita, and exceptionally juicy beef. It is a fantastic, distinctly Pakistani burger, though the soft, mushy patty and lack of textural contrast keep the execution from matching the flavor.
Best for
Bold, sauce-led burgers, herbal freshness, tang and a spicy kick, Pakistani burgers, and Williamsburg counter service.
The catch
The patty is mushy and could use a stronger sear. The complete bite needs more texture, with the beef playing a supporting role rather than leading the burger.

What it's actually like
BK Jani's Pakistani burger has attracted recognition beyond its Williamsburg neighborhood, appearing in The Infatuation's best burgers in NYC guide and an earlier Eater roundup of standout NYC burgers. The Jani brings a distinct identity to the category, with mint chutney, raita, and grilled tomato shaping the experience. Both of us went in August 2026.
The sauces are the first thing you notice. Mint chutney brings herbaceous flavor, while the raita adds creamy tang. There is a kick to the build, and the grilled tomato contributes a little sweetness and brightness.
The custom Pat LaFrieda blend is exceptionally juicy and has good beef flavor. But the meat is more an accessory to the complete combination than its centerpiece. It eats more like a composed sandwich than a beef-led burger, with the chutney, yogurt, and tomato defining the experience.
The limitation is texture. The patty is mushy, and a stronger sear would give it a more distinct exterior. The burger also needs something crisp to interrupt the softness. Shaved raw onion, for example, could provide the crunch and sharpness we were missing.
That criticism does not diminish how much flavor is already here. The chutney's herbal freshness, the raita's tang, and the tomato's brightness all register. What is missing is a sharper textural contrast, not simply another sauce or more seasoning.
One note for anyone ordering now: the restaurant's own storefront describes The Jani as an eight-ounce custom-blend grass-fed patty over mint chutney and tomato with a touch of raita, which matches what we ate. BK Jani also runs a stall in Dekalb Market Hall; this review is of the Grand Street location in Williamsburg.
Strengths
- Outstanding overall flavor
- Exceptionally juicy beef
- Distinctive herbaceous mint chutney
- Creamy tang from the raita
- Grilled tomato adds sweetness and brightness
Why this score
The sauces bring outstanding flavor, and the juicy beef makes the complete burger deeply enjoyable. A mushy patty, insufficient sear, and limited textural contrast are the principal weaknesses in an otherwise fantastic combination.
