Brotherly Breakdown
Written by Brotherly Burgers
Swoony's serves a polished bistro interpretation of a classic double cheeseburger.
Two patties, American cheese, Thousand Island, and pickles create a familiar, nostalgic flavor profile, while the reviewed housemade English muffin adds slight sweetness, absorbs the sauce, and provides enough structure to distinguish the complete burger.
Best for
Double cheeseburgers, Thousand Island, pickles, American cheese, distinctive buns, nostalgic fast-food flavors, and American bistro dining.
What it's actually like
Swoony's is Sal Lamboglia's American bistro follow-up to Café Spaghetti, built around classic proteins and hearty sides rather than the Italian-American cooking of the first restaurant. The room reads less like a concept than a highly curated family home. Knickknacks, fine china, antiques, and a cozy, intimate dining room give it real charm.
The Swoony's Burger fits that setting. We ate it in April 2026, and the version we had came on a housemade English muffin with two smash patties, American cheese, Thousand Island, and pickles.
The flavor is immediately recognizable. Beef, melted cheese, creamy dressing, and pickle acidity land in the same nostalgic register that makes a Big Mac appealing.
The English muffin is the reason it stands out. The sauce settles into it without destroying its structure, the slight sweetness works against the saltier beef and cheese, and the pickles supply enough acidity to keep the whole thing balanced. A conventional soft bun would mostly disappear into the burger. This one contributes instead of simply holding, and it does that without becoming heavy or intrusive.
One note for anyone ordering now: the current menu lists the burger as a double patty with Thousand Island, pickles, American cheese, and fries, and no longer identifies the bun. Treat the English muffin described here as what we ate.
Strengths
- Distinctive housemade English muffin
- Bun absorbs sauce without losing structure
- Balanced Thousand Island and pickle profile
- American cheese supports the nostalgic build
- Cohesive double-patty construction
Why this score
Swoony's separates itself by giving a familiar double-cheeseburger profile a more distinctive structure. The Thousand Island, pickles, and American cheese create a recognizable nostalgic balance.
The housemade English muffin contributes enough sweetness, softness, and stability to make the burger feel deliberate rather than generic.
