The apéritif

Rob Roy, as made at Old Waldorf-Astoria, Midtown

Build the Rob Roy, the Scotch Manhattan, to Difford’s Guide’s spec.

The recipe: 2 : 1

  • Blended Scotch whisky: 2 parts (67%)
  • Sweet vermouth: 1 part (33%)

Stirred with bitters, strained, orange zest, cherry.

Difford’s spec. It takes its name from the Rob Roy operetta, which opened on Broadway on October 29, 1894; the idea that the Waldorf made it for operagoers is tradition, not record.
