Brotherly Breakdown
Written by Brotherly Burgers
Bandits was a retro burger and cocktail room on Bedford Street, and it served a wagyu smash burger.
It was below average for us. The restaurant has since closed, so this stands as a record of what was there rather than a recommendation.
The catch
The restaurant has closed. Separately, the burger was below average when we ate it.
What it's actually like
Bandits, which traded as Bandits Burger and Dive, was an all-day burger joint and cocktail bar at 44 Bedford Street in the West Village, from the Den Hospitality team behind the Garret bars. The room was a deliberate retro diner and dive hybrid: swivel stools, Formica tables, banquettes, black-and-white tile.
It has closed. Its own site now says it is taking a break, that it may be back, and thanks people for the memories.
The burger menu during its operating period included a wagyu smash burger. No first-party menu remains accessible, so that is as far as we will go on the build.
Our judgment is that it was below average. No component was singled out in our notes, and with the restaurant gone and no menu to check against, we are not going to construct one.
Why this score
The only judgment on record is that the burger was below average, with no component singled out and no surviving menu to anchor a component-level account.
The assessment rests on the overall impression and stops there.
