Casa 13urger
Lower East Side, Manhattan

Brotherly Breakdown
Written by Brotherly Burgers
Casa 13urger is the smashburger arm of Casa Thirteen, and we liked the burgers across the board. The Western Bacon Cheeseburger was our clear favorite, where bacon, barbecue sauce, and onion rings produce a sweet and smoky flavor the plain build does not reach for.
The classic smashburger was solid. A house version of a Big Mac, new when we ate it, tasted exactly like the name.
Best for
Classic smashburgers, bacon and barbecue builds, onion rings on a burger, and inexpensive Lower East Side eating.
The catch
The plain smashburger is solid rather than distinctive. The Western is where this kitchen shows something the standard build does not.
What it's actually like
Casa 13urger sits on the corner of Delancey and Bowery and works a Filipino angle into the standard New York burger counter. We ate four things: the classic smash, the Western Bacon Cheeseburger, the fried chicken, and a house Big Mac interpretation that was new at the time.
The Western was the favorite and it was not close. Bacon, barbecue sauce, and onion rings gave it a genuine sweet and smoky character, and the onion rings add crunch and height that a flat smashburger otherwise does not have. Those three components pull in one coherent direction, which is why the preference is a reason rather than a matter of taste.
The classic smashburger was solid. That is the honest word for it, and it is the word our notes use. Nothing was wrong with it and nothing separates it from the many competent smashburgers within walking distance of it.
The Big Mac version tasted exactly like a Big Mac, which is presumably the entire brief, and it hit it.
Two notes on the record. Our notes contain one component-level flavor observation across all four items, the Western's sweet and smoky character, so we are not going to tell you about the patties, the buns, or the casa sauce. And the Big Mac interpretation does not appear on the current menu, so treat it as something we ate rather than something you can order.
Strengths
- Western Bacon Cheeseburger delivers real sweet and smoky flavor
- Bacon, barbecue sauce, and onion rings combine coherently
- Classic smashburger is solid
- House Big Mac interpretation hits its reference accurately
Why this score
The same kitchen produced a competent plain smashburger and a more interesting variation, and the variation is genuinely better for reasons that hold up.
What keeps the profile where it is, is that the standard build is unremarkable, and one strong variant does not lift a counter whose baseline burger is merely fine.
