Corner Bistro

Corner Bistro has been a cash-only West Village dive since 1961, and in September 2025 it opened a second location on Avenue A, its first expansion. We took over the new East Village room with about forty friends. New space, same burger. This assessment is based on one visit.

The Bistro Burger is a half-pound patty with American cheese and crisp bacon, served with lettuce, tomato, onion, and pickles. It has probably not changed much in sixty years.

What makes this review unusual is the sample. Forty people ate the same burger and scored it independently, and almost all of them landed in the same range. Agreement at that scale is real information: it says the burger is consistent and that it is exactly what it appears to be, with no surprises in either direction.

What they agreed on is that it is a genuine no-frills burger and that for the price and the atmosphere you are not going to be annoyed by it. For a bar that has done the same thing since 1961, that is not faint praise.

We should be straight about the limits here. Forty people scored this burger and our notes do not record a single observation about the patty, the bun, the cheese, or the bacon. So we can tell you the verdict and how widely it was shared, and we are not going to invent the rest.

One note on which room we mean: this review is of the East Village location.

A burger this plain has to win on value and consistency, and it does both. Forty people arriving at the same assessment says something about reliability that a single visit cannot.

What keeps it where it is, is that nothing about the burger itself stands out. There is no component here doing anything that would make somebody choose it over the many other honest tavern burgers in the city.
