The Dry Aged Burger at Emmett's

Brotherly Breakdown

Our own take, from eating it. Written by Brotherly Burgers.

Emmett's on Grove serves two radically different burgers, but the Dry Aged Burger is the clear standout.

Its expertly cooked and seasoned dry-aged patty, American cheese, raw white onion, and sesame bun create an elite version of a classic cheeseburger. The Char Cheddar is more maximalist and distinctive, but its sharp cheese spread and extensive topping stack can overwhelm the bite.

Best for

Classic dry-aged cheeseburgers, American cheese and raw onion, maximalist cheddar builds, tavern-style pizza, and strong neighborhood value.

The catch

The Char Cheddar Burger can become overwhelmed by its sharp cheddar spread and extensive topping combination. It is unique and enjoyable, but substantially less restrained and balanced than the Dry Aged Burger.

What it's actually like

Emmett's on Grove gave us the first real Brotherly Bickering question. Is the Dry Aged Burger elite? At the time, Derek said yes and Nick said no. We have now reached the final ruling. It is elite.

That simplicity is the entire point. The American cheese adds the familiar richness you want from a classic cheeseburger. The raw white onion gives it enough sharpness to break through the beef and cheese. The build remains focused, direct, and completely confident in what it is.

The Dry Aged Burger is the Joe Flacco of burgers. For years, people argued over whether he was elite, and the correct answer depended on how annoying you wanted to be during the conversation. We are done debating this one.

Then there is the Char Cheddar, which is operating in a completely different offense. Sharp cheddar spread, caramelized onions, sport peppers, relish, tomato, ketchup, and mustard combine into a crazy amalgamation of flavor. It is sharp, sweet, tangy, spicy, rich, and occasionally overwhelming.

It is far more unusual than the Dry Aged Burger. There are bites where the cheese and toppings take complete control, and there are bites where the entire chaotic profile lands exactly as intended. We liked it. We would still order the Dry Aged Burger first.

The rest of Emmett's is excellent too. The tavern-style pizza is thin, crisp, and delicious. The meatballs are great. The chicken Parmesan is great. The quality-to-cost ratio across the menu makes the restaurant extremely easy to recommend.

Emmett's on Grove is not merely a place with two interesting burgers. It is an amazing neighborhood restaurant that happens to serve an elite one.

Strengths

  • Phenomenal dry-aged beef
  • Expert patty cook and seasoning
  • Classic American cheese and raw-onion balance
  • Distinctive Char Cheddar concept
  • Strong value relative to quality

Why this score

Emmett's on Grove separates itself through the elite execution of its Dry Aged Burger and the originality of the Char Cheddar. The Dry Aged Burger succeeds through restraint, beef quality, and precise cooking, while the Char Cheddar offers a more distinctive but less balanced experience.

The Dry Aged Burger is the stronger and more complete reason to visit.
