Hole in the Wall

Hole in the Wall is an Australian café and bar with several New York rooms. This profile is scoped to the Flatiron location on West 24th Street, which does Australian brunch staples alongside an evening menu and cocktails.

The OG Beef Burger is short rib beef, bacon, white cheddar, miso onions, and special sauce on a brioche bun. That is the restaurant's build rather than our account of what we tasted, and it is a more considered burger than most café burgers bother with. A short rib patty and miso onions are deliberate choices, not defaults.

Our judgment is that it came out below average anyway. We did not write down where it lost us, and we are not going to work backward from the menu to invent a cause.

Two things worth flagging about our own record. The Flatiron menu carries a second burger, a cacio e pepe smashburger, and our notes do not say which of the two we ate; we have treated the OG as the ranked item because it is the house burger. And this is a multi-location operation, so the room we visited is not recorded either.

The only judgment on record is that the burger was below average, with no component singled out.

That is a notable result for a build with this much intent in it, and without a recorded cause there is nothing further to weigh.
