Smacking Burger
West Village, Manhattan

Brotherly Breakdown
Our own take, from eating it. Written by Brotherly Burgers.
Smacking Burger serves a surprisingly strong smashburger from inside a working West Village gas station.
The patty developed a crisp exterior, the Martin's bun was perfectly toasted, and the dill-forward SMACK sauce worked well with the caramelized onions, pickles, and shredded lettuce. The burger succeeds by executing familiar fundamentals cleanly.
Best for
Crisp smashburger patties, toasted Martin's buns, dill-forward burger sauce, caramelized onions, loaded fries, and casual West Village stops.
The catch
The current assessment is based only on Nick's experience. Derek has not tried the burger, so the review has less shared Brotherly Burgers evidence than most entries.
What it's actually like
Nick went in October 2025 expecting a viral-location gimmick. The burger delivered.
The patty had the crisp exterior you want from a smashburger, and the Martin's potato bun was one of the strongest parts of the build. It was perfectly toasted, soft where it needed to be, and structured enough to hold everything together.
The SMACK sauce gave the burger its own identity. It had a distinct dill flavor that paired naturally with the pickles, caramelized onions, and shredded lettuce. The onions added sweetness, the pickles brought acidity, and the lettuce kept the bite fresh.
Every component stayed in its lane. The burger was not trying to prove anything beyond the fundamentals. Crisp patty. Toasted bun. Pickles. Onion. Lettuce. Sauce. It executed those fundamentals well.
That is what made the experience surprising. The location gets your attention, but the burger keeps it.
The loaded fries were even better than In-N-Out's animal-style fries. That is not a setting-adjusted compliment. They were genuinely better.
One note for anyone ordering now: the burger was the SMACK Burger at the time, and the current menu lists a corresponding item called The Big Smack on a Martin's sesame bun rather than the potato bun Nick had. Treat the version described here as what was eaten.
Strengths
- Well-crisped patty
- Perfectly toasted Martin's bun
- Distinct dill-forward SMACK sauce
- Caramelized onions and pickles complement the beef
- Strong execution of smashburger fundamentals
Why this score
Smacking Burger separates itself by delivering a well-executed classic smashburger in a setting that initially feels like the main attraction. The crisp patty, toasted bun, dill-forward sauce, and familiar toppings remain properly balanced.
The gas-station location creates the novelty, but the burger quality carries the recommendation.
