The Attic

Brotherly Breakdown
Written by Brotherly Burgers
The Attic's Wagyu Beef Burger has good flavors and poor balance. The meat was juicy with a cleaner taste to it, closer to what we would expect from grass-fed beef, and the mozzarella is a genuinely unusual choice that worked.
What went wrong is proportion. There was too much sauce at times, and the burger needed more rounding out to pull its flavors into one thing. Good components, no structure.
Best for
Wagyu burgers, mozzarella, juicy clean-tasting beef, and Flushing oyster and cocktail bars.
The catch
The balance is off. Too much sauce at times, and nothing tying the flavors into a coherent bite.
What it's actually like
The Attic is a second-floor speakeasy oyster and cocktail bar in downtown Flushing with a Continental menu, and the Wagyu Beef Burger with mozzarella is its burger. The restaurant's own site publishes no menu page, so the composition rests on what we were told and on third-party listings.
The meat was the best part. Juicy, with a cleaner taste than we expected, and honestly it read grass-fed to us rather than like a typical wagyu build. We are recording that as an impression of the flavor, not as a claim about sourcing.
The mozzarella is the interesting decision. It is not a cheese that turns up on burgers often, and here it earned its place.
The problem is that none of it is held together. There was too much sauce at times, and the burger needed more rounding of flavor. Our notes say the flavors were great and the balance was off, which is the clearest possible statement that this is an assembly problem rather than an ingredient one. Every element was good on its own and the burger did not read as one thing.
That is the frustrating version of a mediocre result. There is a better burger inside this one.
Strengths
- Juicy meat with a clean taste
- Mozzarella is a genuinely unusual and effective choice
- Good individual flavors
Weaknesses
- Balance is off
- Too much sauce at times
- Flavors are not rounded into a coherent bite
Why this score
The ingredients are good and the cheese choice is genuinely distinctive, which is why this does not sit lower.
What holds it back is entirely structural. The sauce is overapplied and nothing in the build rounds the flavors into a single bite, so a burger with good parts never becomes a good burger.
